G.I. Jen

If she can do it, I can too! I am thinking this weekend is the best time to shave my head. My hair is falling out so quickly -- it's disgusting. I have some scarves so I'm ready. At least I think I am ready!

I'm no Natalie Portman or Demi Moore but... these ladies don't look so bad.

As long as I don't lose my eyebrows and eyelashes, I think I will be okay. Maybe I should go to a barber shop and do something decorative. What do you think?

  1. Strangely I did not lose my eyebrows until 3 weeks AFTER my last chemo! Then every single hair fell out. Was not expecting that! But by then I was so happy to see a teensy tiny little evidence of hair coming back on my head, it wasn't so bad. And I swear my brows grew back in a week!

  2. Regrettably, you will lose your eyebrows and eyelashes! You will lose every hair on your body, even ones you had not considered losing. :-) It is okay. It happens to each of us who go through this grueling treatment. But the lashes and brows seemed hardest for me. I think it was because, being a dark haired individual, I was use to this color on my face. It is amazing how those tiny lashes and brows outline our face and who we are in appearance. And then when it is all gone, we can wear a hat, or scarf, or wig, but "drawn on" brows look just like that. So I felt I looked even paler without the facial hair than I did just from the sleepless nights and fatigue. But it will all be okay, because it will come back afterwards.

One thing that was kind of weird is I had a couple of brow hairs and lash hairs that seemed to linger. They didn't add much color, but I could feel there were there. It wasn't until the new hair started to come end after chemo that those other hairs were sort of pushed out and then I really looked pale -- but not for long.

But Natalie Portman and Demi Moore had brows and lashes, and they didn't have the palor of chemo treatment either.

The funny thing for me, at 58, was that the hair on my legs seemed to come back much faster than on my head. I'm 4 months out from chemo now and I'd say my head hair is only about 3/4" long. But my legs seem to need shaving weekly again. I had gotten to where that didn't seem necessary before cancer, at my age.

Oh well, it is what it is. I'm glad you have kept a positive attitude and kept your spirits up. Hang in there, each day is another day closer to end of chemo. AND that is a really good thing.
    Hugs,
    Debbie
